Hello all! Pie here. I was wondering if anyone knew a good method of photographing art work, for slides or CD. I have an art show coming up & in the odd case that I might sell a painting, I'd like to at least have a picture of it for posterity.
I've tried just taking pictures with the boyfriend's digital camera, but they are too bright due to flash or too blurry due to the lack or it.
Anyone know what I'm perhaps doing wrong?

Fri, February 11, 2005 - 1:03 PMyou should probably not use the flash but use a longer speed time instead.... to avoid the blur , you will need to put your cam on a tripod , try diferent speed setting and you 'l succed
hope it helps
bravo for selling your art

Re: Slides/art photography
Thu, March 17, 2005 - 7:04 PMThe trick is to photograph using a copy stand, or its nearest equivalent.
A copy stand set-up puts the camera parallel to the artwork and uses two lights to illuminate the art. Both lights are set on 45 degree angles off the artwork to eliminate glare.
If you don't have the ability to do a set up like this, pick a nice day outside and do a set-up where you get indirect sunlight (no glare). This won't be as precise, but anything that avoids the use of flash will give you better results. . . -

Re: Slides/art photography
Thu, March 17, 2005 - 9:32 PMI just did the same thing a couple of days ago. A friend of mine who helped out suggested photographing my prints outside of a frame (or glass, more specifically). I also found that the light meter was critical and photograph your work with different settings. Having a few shots over exposed and a few under will help you bracket out the best shots.
