I am a visual artist specializing in capturing the visual effects of urban decay. It is my observation, that we, as casual members of society, often never see the city as it really exists. We see only general images and memories of architecture and their surroundings. We say we have seen the city because we have driven along one street, parked in one place, visited one building. But what of the content? The colors, forms, textures, and people that make up the city? Do we see these critical elements? As an artist, I am dissecting the city into its microcosms of value and space, turning them into stolen moments of history. Written case studies often reveal the inner workings of the community and it's inhabitants, but what of the psychological imagery one forms while studying these cases? Is it a true representation of the reformation process, and how can an image remedy this situation?
